Fellowship Training Programs

Fellowship Training Programs

One of our missions is to inspire the next generation of surgeons.

We established the first fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery within the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1992. In 2001, we established our fellowship in Advanced Craniomaxillofacial and Trauma Surgery.

Our fellows are surgeons who have completed dental school, medical school, and residency and have chosen to pursue additional training in a highly specialized area within Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Our surgeons are often closely shadowed by our fellows and involved in all aspects of patient care, including surgery and outpatient follow-up.

Our fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery was the first in the U.S. for oral and maxillofacial surgeons devoted specifically to oncologic surgery. Our fellowship program is known throughout the world for its strong tradition of producing leading academic surgeons. To date, the 27 alumni of our fellowship include three department chairmen, seven residency program directors at major universities, one director of a cancer research institute and one chancellor of a medical university. Four of our alumni also have Ph.D. degrees. Four of our former fellows have also gone on to establish oral/ head and neck cancer fellowships at their respective institutions.

Our fellowship in Advanced Craniomaxillofacial and Trauma Surgery focuses on the development of advanced skills in craniomaxillofacial surgery and trauma management. To date, there have been eight alumni of this program, six of which are in faculty positions in academic institutions and a seventh is a chief of oral and maxillofacial surgery at a major medical center.
