Drs. Cheng and Patel Appointed as Examiners for the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Head & Neck Surgical Associates is proud to announce that Dr. Allen C. Cheng, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S. and Dr. Ashish A. Patel, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S. have each been selected to serve as Examiners for the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). In these roles, they will play a key part in upholding the rigorous standards of the oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) specialty.

As Examiners, Drs. Cheng and Patel will help design, assess, and validate examinations used by ABOMS to ensure that certified surgeons meet the highest levels of competency in both surgical skill and professional judgment. Their responsibilities include reviewing candidate performance, faculty calibration, and contributing to the continuous refinement of assessment practices.

Dr. Cheng, a board-certified Diplomate of ABOMS, whose practice spans oral surgery, head & neck oncology, reconstructive microsurgery, trauma, and jaw alignment surgery, brings extensive clinical and academic experience. As Section Chair of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Medical Director for the Oral/Head & Neck Cancer Program, his insight will be invaluable for the credentialing process.

Dr. Patel, board-certified in oral and maxillofacial surgery and fellowship-trained in head & neck oncologic reconstruction, leads advanced work in cancer surgery, minimally invasive techniques, robotic surgery, and patient-specific reconstruction. He also serves as the medical director of the Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery and holds academic appointments at Oregon Health and Science University and Washington State University School of Medicine, contributing broadly to training the next generation of surgeons.

By contributing their time and expertise to ABOMS, Drs. Cheng and Patel help ensure that every certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon meets a standard of excellence that keeps patient safety, effectiveness, and innovation at the forefront.
